Welcome to Mmm Que Rico: A Dream Come True
I’m Walter, the proud owner of Mmm Que Rico. My journey started with a love for cooking Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken. For years, I made this dish at home, dreaming of one day sharing it with others. In 2013, after retiring from my career in IT, my wife Susana and I decided to make that dream a reality. We moved to Calabash, NC, a town famous for its seafood, and opened our doors in May 2014. It wasn’t easy, but with hard work and support from my wife, we made it happen.
Our Heritage: From Peru, Argentina, and Beyond
Mmm Que Rico was born from our love for family and culture. I’m from Lima, Peru, and Susana is from Buenos Aires, Argentina. We combined the best of both worlds, offering Peruvian, Argentinian, and later Mexican dishes. Our journey began with Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken, Argentinian sandwiches, and empanadas. As we got to know the community, we expanded our menu to include traditional Mexican dishes, sharing our heritage with Calabash.
Our Story Behind the Name
Mmm Que Rico was named after one of our grandsons, who, at just 2.5 years old, would always exclaim, "Mmm Que Rico!!" while enjoying our chicken. His joyful reaction inspired the restaurant’s name, which reminds us of the love and joy that food brings to our family.
A Growing Community Favorite
Opening a restaurant in a town known as the "Seafood Capital of the World" was a challenge. At first, no one knew what Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken was. But, little by little, we built a loyal following. Thanks to our family recipes, support from locals, and a lot of hard work, our business has grown each year. Today, we’re proud to have earned 4.9 to 5.0 ratings from our customers. It’s an honor to see our dream turn into something special.
A Proud Moment in the Spotlight
In 2019, we had the honor of being featured on BuzzFeed’s list of the "Best Mexican Restaurants in the US" by Samantha Wieder. We were ranked number 28, and it felt like a huge achievement! This recognition made us even more excited to continue serving the community and sharing our love for Latin American food.
